Explain erratic fuel supply – Mweetwa

Written by on June 5, 2021

The UPND has challenged the Ministry of Energy to tell the nation what is causing the erratic supply of fuel in some parts of the country.

Speaking at a media briefing in Livingstone today, UPND spokesperson, Cornelius Mweetwa, said some parts of Zambia like Livingstone are experiencing erratic fuel supply with the potential of spreading to other parts of the country.

Mr. Mweetwa said this is the first time in Zambia’s history that a fuel shortage would be experienced with just over two months to go to the general elections.

Mr. Mweetwa said he is aware that it has become unprofitable for Oil Marketing Companies to supply fuel in the country due to the continued weakening of the Kwacha. Mr. Mweetwa said despite this, government is preventing the increase of fuel prices for fear of losing the August elections.

Mr. Mweetwa further stated that the recently announced waiver on the importation of edible crude oils by the government is a political gimmick meant to woo voters ahead of the elections.
