Former United Party National Development Spokesperson Charles Kakoma has ditched his party to join the ruling Patriotic Front citing ‘strange happenings’ in the UPND following the party’s recent General Assembly.
In announcing his defection to the Patriotic Front at a media briefing held in Lusaka today, Mr. Kakoma said it is surprising that despite commanding a huge following within the UPND, the party’s leadership decided to relegate him and added that the move had angered his followers.
Mr. Kakoma further added that the party’s decision to appoint only two (2) Luvale people to the National Management Committee is testimony enough that they lack the caliber to promote regional inclusion.
Mr. Kakoma explained that while the UPND see him as a political liability, the Patriotic Front view him as an asset and has pledged to campaign for President Edgar Lungu in order to deliver maximum votes for him in North-Western Province.
