Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development engages police to curb illegal mining of Manganese

Mines and Minerals Development Minister, Richard Musukwa says his Ministry has engaged the Zambia Police Service in all the areas where Manganese is being mined as a remedial measure to curb illegal mining.

Mr. Musukwa says his Ministry has revoked all dormant licenses in order to pave way for serious investors both local and foreign, to exploit not only Manganese but other minerals in Zambia. He said this in response to Serenje Member of Parliament, Maxwell Kabanda who wanted to know what specific measures government is taking to harness the mining of Manganese and Gold to ensure that the country benefits from the resources.

Mr Musukwa said manganese mining has in the recent past has been marred with illegalities involving various unlicensed people.
