Written by on March 30, 2021

The New Hope Movement for Multi-Party Democracy says it remains opposed to the high nomination fees announced by the Electoral Commission ahead of this years Presidential Elections.

The party’s Chairperson for Elections, Malama Sokoni says the K95,000 set for male candidates, K75,000 for female candidates and K60,000 for the youth and Persons Living with Disabilities are prohibitive. Mr. Sokoni also noted that very few Zambians have the capacity to pay the proposed fees for people vying to contest Parliamentary seats.

Speaking at a media briefing, Mr Sokoni announced that nominations for party members interested in contesting the elections as Members of Parliament, Councilors and Council Chairpersons will run from 1st to 21st April 2021.
