President Lungu nominates Professor Nkandu Luo as Running-Mate

President Edgar Lungu this morning announced former Minister of Fisheries and Livestock, Professor Nkandu Luo as his running-mate in this years’ general elections.

Professor Luo, in the company of President Lungu took oath this morning before Electoral Commission of Zambia Chairperson, Essau Chulu.

Professor Luo 70, became a Professor in Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Zambia in 1993 and was first elected to Parliament as Mandevu law maker in 1996 under the Movement for Multi-Party Democracy regime led by late President Frederick Chiluba and served in a number of cabinet portfolios.

Professor Luo has been Member of Parliament for Munali Constituency since 2011 when the Patriotic Front was ushered into office and has served as the nation as Minister of Local Government, Minister of Chiefs and Traditional Affairs, Minister of Higher Education, Minister of Gender and is the immediate past Minister of Fisheries and Livestock.

After filing in his nomination papers, President Lungu urged Patriotic Front Members to accept Professor Luo as running-mate as he is happy with his choice.

In a related matter, the Zambia Alliance of Women Executive Director, Edah Chimya welcomed Professor Luo’s nomination as President Lungu’s running-mate saying the Alliance is confident that Professor Luo will advocate for the participation of more women in decision making positions.
