The Economics Association of Zambia has advised government to allow the private sector to take a lead in the procurement of fuel.
Association President Lubinda Haabazoka says allowing the private sector to take a lead in the procurement of fuel is cardinal to the prevention of fuel shortages in the country.
Dr Haabazoka has however urged government to closely monitor the current fuel situation to prevent the exploitation of citizens by oil marketing companies.
The current fuel shortages are alleged to be as a result of the governments failure to pay oil suppliers.
