Written by on February 9, 2021

The Resident Doctors Association of Zambia is disappointed that various medical supplies and products at Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency have expired due to over procurement.

Dr. Isaac Sakala, the Associations’ president says it is worrying that insulin, which was recently reported to be in short supply in Zambia, is among the expired drugs at ZAMMSA.

Dr. Sakala has commended Health Minister Dr Jonas Chanda for exposing the rot and is hopeful that the restructuring of the Ministry of Health will help address the many wrongs exposed in the country’s healthcare system.

Dr. Chanda during his inspection of ZAMMSA yesterday discovered that essential drugs such as Insulin, Hydrogen Peroxide and Family Planning Pills among others had expired.

Meanwhile, Golden Party of Zambia Leader Jackson Silavwe says it is unbelievable that essential drugs can expire on the shelves of Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency yet hospitals and other health care facilities across the country experience perpetual shortages.
