Zambian Covid-19 infections surpass 50,000 mark

The number of people known to have contracted the novel coronavirus in Zambia has now surpassed 50, 000 since the pandemic first broke out in March 2020.


The cumulative number of cases rose to 50, 319 following the 1, 408 new infections recorded yesterday Thursday January 28, 2020 from the 13, 524 tests done. According to Health Minister Dr. Jonas Chanda, the number of fatalities arising from the pandemic has risen to 705 after 17 more people died on Thursday.


Dr. Chanda said from the 705 deaths, 316 were confirmed COVID-19 deaths, 384 associated to the pandemic and five were yet to be classified. Updating the nation during the routine COVID-19 updates, Dr. Chanda disclosed that 500 people were admitted to various health facilities, 6,343 under community management while active cases stood at 6,843.


He said 1,489 people have recovered from the disease bringing the total number of discharges to 42,771
