ZAMRA intensifies post-marketing surveillance activities

Written by on January 20, 2021

The Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority has advised persons intending to place on the market conventional, herbal and traditional medicines for purposes of treatment or management of COVID-19 to apply for authorization from the Authority.

Christabel Iliamupu, the ZAMRA Senior Public Relations Officer said applications for marketing authorization should include supporting clinical trial data to evidence the safety and efficacy of the intended products. Mrs Iliamupu added that the Authority is responsible for the granting of approval for advertising or promotion of registered medicines and allied substances.

She informed the public that ZAMRA has not received any application for the conduction of clinical trials or the grant of marketing authorization for conventional, herbal or traditional medicines for use in treatment or management of COVID-19.

Mrs Iliamupu also has warned that the Authority had intensified its post-marketing surveillance activities and any would-be-offenders would be prosecuted under the Law.
