Leader of the opposition Patriots for Economic Progress Sean Tembo says he is still waiting for President Edgar Lungu to address the nation on the Honey Bee Pharmacy saga involving the supply of expired drugs to the Ministry of Health.
Mr. Tembo said it was difficult to understand how this happened when the country has a lot of safeguards and controls for detecting and mitigating against substandard goods such as medical supplies.
He questioned how the Zambia Bureau of Standards failed to detect irregularities at the port of entry and how the Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority allowed expired drugs and leaking condoms to be distributed across the country.
Mr. Tembo further questioned why Medical Stores Limited failed to detect that the drugs, condoms and gloves were substandard and why action was not taken when the President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Zambia first raised the issue about 4 months ago.
Mr. Tembo said the firing of Dr. Chitalu Chilufya as Health Minister does not address the HoneyBee Pharmacy Scandal as no reasons were advanced for his sacking.
