The Electoral Commission of Zambia has announced that 19 Presidential candidates have so far paid the K95,000 nomination fee to contest in the August 12th elections.
Electoral Commission of Zambia Chief Electoral Officer, Patrick Nshindano says those who have paid include UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema, Democratic Party’s Harry Kalaba, President Edgar Lungu and New Heritage party leader Chishala Kateka.
Mr. Nshindano says the number is likely to increase once the Commission’s system is updated to include those that may have paid as of yesterday. He also stated that the 2021 Certified Voters Register stands at over 7 million from the first Provisional Consolidated Voters Register.
According to Mr. Nshindano, only 43.2% of registered voters successfully verified their details, 57% of which verified physically while 43% verified digitally.
