Water Development, Sanitation and Environmental Protection Minister, Raphael Nakachinda says access to safe and clean water in the country has increased from below 50% to over 72% of the country’s population as a result of interventions put in place by the government.

The Minister says the country has also recorded an increase in access to improved sanitation from 25% to over 60% of the population. Mr. Nakachinda further stated that the creation of the Ministry has helped shape and assess sanitation and water related issues in the last five (5) years.

The Minister says through various related projects, the public has been safeguarded from the stigma that comes with open defecation and common diseases such as cholera and has put a stop to the sharing of water sources with wide animals.
