Three fishermen are feared dead while one has swum to safety after a boat accident that happened on Lake Kariba in Gwembe District of Southern Province.

Police say a plank paddling boat was hit by a strong wave on 3rd November and later capsized when the four fishermen were heading to Skipper Island for fishing.

The accident is the second in a space of one month after another boat was hit by a strong wave on 2nd November 2020 in which a 70-year-old man identified as Elliot Mwansa died and his body has not yet been recovered while Emmanuel Mishimbwe aged 35 managed to swim to safety.

Zambia Police Assistant Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi identified the missing persons as Abraham Chingombe aged 27, Ben Chishala aged 20 and Chilamuka Jiwawa aged 24 all of Namanzuma area and the survivor as Chanda Chibale aged 26 of the same area.

Mr Chilabi said the bodies of the missing people have not yet been retrieved.
