Competition with foreign businesses is killing infant Zambian businesses

Written by on May 7, 2021

The Golden Party of Zambia says allowing foreigners to openly compete with Zambians whose businesses are in their infancy stage is killing local businesses and entrepreneurs.

GPZ President, Jackson Silavwe says foreign businesses have enough capital to invest in enterprises while local entrepreneurs are failing to grow and compete effectively. Mr. Silavwe he is however, not opposed to foreign direct investment but is of the view that foreign businesses are currently flourishing at the expense of local ones especially those that can be done by local people.

Mr. Silavwe proposed that businesses such as construction, agro-processing, block making, chicken rearing and welding among others should be the preserve of the locals.
