Three fishermen are feared dead while the fourth managed to swim to safety after a boating accident that happened on Lake Kariba in Gwembe District in the Southern Province of Zambia.

Police say a plank paddling boat was hit by a strong wave on 3rd November 2020 causing it to capsize. On-board were four fishermen who were heading to Skipper Island for fishing.

The accident is the second in a space of one month after another boat was similarly hit by a strong wave on 2nd November 2020 causing it to capsize. The victims of this accident were a 70-year-old man identified as Elliot Mwansa whose body has not yet been recovered and Emmanuel Mishimbwe aged 35 years who managed to swim to safety.

Zambia Police Assistant Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi identified the missing persons as Abraham Chingombe aged 27 years, Ben Chishala aged 20 years and Chilamuka Jiwawa aged 24 years all of Namanzuma area and the survivor as Chanda Chibale aged 26 years of the same area.

Mr Chilabi said the bodies of the missing people have not yet been found.
