The Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit, (DMMU) has refuted allegations by the UPND that the institution is asking people to surrender their National Registration and Voter’s cards in exchange for relief food.

DMMU National Coordinator, Chanda Kabwe says contrary to the allegations against it, the institution exists to serve the interests of Zambians and has no political ties. Mr. Kabwe said this after he distributed assorted relief food items to 320 retirees and retrenched workers in Lusaka today.

Mr. Kabwe also stated that the beneficiaries will continue to benefit from the program until 2022 and warned them against selling the items as they would be penalized.

Meanwhile, the beneficiaries expressed happiness with the gesture saying, it will go a long way in helping to deal with the hunger situation that a number of households are faced with.
