Local Government Minister, Dr. Charles Banda has taken a swipe at some senior council officials for unilaterally closing down business houses in Lusaka.
In an apparent reference to Lusaka Mayor Miles Sampa who last week closed down two Chinese run businesses for allegedly discriminating against blacks, Dr. Banda said Government regrets that such actions were taken without following the due process of the law.
Dr. Banda said Local authorities follow laid down procedures when awarding trading licenses and it is unacceptable for some officials to unilaterally to cancel licenses.
The Minister explains that revoking of trading licenses should not be done anyhow, saying officers designated by Town Clerks are the ones mandated to take such actions.
And Dr. Banda has revealed that appropriate action will be taken against all council officials that have acted outside their mandate.
