President Hakainde Hichilema says there is need to show prudence in local resource management before the government can engage the international community over the Zambia’s debt stock.
President Hichilema says the Zambian people need to understand that resources are scarce and that his government is looking to control frivolous expenditure.
In an interview with the BBC’s Focus on Africa last evening, President Hichilema stated that his administration is yet to ascertain the extent of the damage caused by corruption in the previous administration and the country’s exact debt status.
Mr. Hichilema said horrifying amounts of funds were stolen from the national treasuries and that some individuals from the previous regime are still trying to execute last minute evasive transactions.
The President also stated that the changes to the nation’s Defence forces was to ensure that the country continues to enjoy peace which will play an integral part in reviving the economy. The Head of State further stated that his administration will devolve its operations to ensure that citizens across the country begin to enjoy certain benefits such as poverty reduction.
