High expectations as the nation awaits President Lungu’s address

Written by on February 9, 2021

Stakeholder expectations are notably high in anticipation of President Lungu’s address to parliament and the nation at large that the country will hold it’s elections on the 12th August, 2021.

Transparency International Zambia Executive Director, Maurice Nyambe feels the President needs to assure the nation that there will be no reports of electoral corruption ahead of the general elections. Mr. Nyambe says President Lungu should highlight how the PF’s campaign financing will be done and how corruption will be dealt with in the next five months.

Meanwhile, Foundation for Democratic Process Executive Director, George Chimembe, feels continued tribal sentiments, injustices and the selective application of the law are some of the issues the Head of State should address.

On Friday 12th February, 2021, President Lungu is expected to address the nation on the progress made on the application of national values and principles in line with Article 9 (2) of the Constitution of Zambia.
