Government has launched the Home-Grown School Meals National Strategy which will ensure that pupils in Pre and Primary schools are provided with locally sourced meals.
The 2020-2024 Strategy has been launched in Lusaka today with support from the World Food Programme.
Speaking during the launch, Ministry of General Education Permanent Secretary Dr Jabbin Mulwanda said government has so far provided substantial resources to children to support the program.
And World Food Program Country Representative Jennifer Bitonde who has pledged support to the Ministry of General Education has called for more funding towards the program.
Meanwhile, United Nations Resident Coordinator Dr Coumba Gadio has advised government to ensure that there is a strategy when schools reopen in order to sustain the feeding program.
