Minister of Healrth, Dr. Jonas Chanda today announced the opening of COVID-19 vaccination sites in all provinces and districts across the country to avail people access the vaccine in their various localities.
Dr. Chanda says District Health Offices will provide further information on which sites are providing the COVID-19 vaccination service. He has also revealed that Luapula Province yesterday became the first province outside Lusaka to launch the COVID-19 vaccination programme with Chief Kasoma Lwela of Chembe District and Chief Chimese of Mansa District receiving the jab.
Dr. Chanda disclosed that 4,611 people have received the vaccine since its launch with 27 percent being healthcare workers, 8 percent being civic leaders and 3 percent accounting for religious and traditional leaders.
Meanwhile, Dr. Chanda said the country recorded 77 new COVID-19 cases with 2 deaths and 56 discharges in the last 24 hours while active cases stand at 925.
In a related matter, the Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority (ZAMRA) Senior Public Relations Officer, Christabel Iliamupu says her institution in collaboration with the Ministry of Health has embarked on a countrywide sensitization and training programme of health care workers following the launch of the vaccination programme.
