Over 10 000 families from Twelve villages in Chief Liteta’s area in Chibombo District in the Central Province of Zambia are faced with eviction after the land they inhabit is said to have been sold off to Chinese nationals.
The villagers say their land was sold by unknown people who they said connived with some of the village headmen. They say, over 8 Thousand Hectors of land has been sold off, and that the land houses over 12 villages.
The villagers say they have nowhere to go as most of them were born and bred in the area. They complained that they had tried to speak to their Chief, the Chibombo Council Chairman and the District Commissioner who all seemed unwilling to help resolve the matter.
The villagers have however, vowed to stay on the land as they have nowhere to go. They further appealed to President Edgar Lungu and Lands Minister Jean Kapata to intervene in the matter
