Parliament today heard that 415 foreign nationals acquired land in Zambia between 2014 to 2019.
Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Jean Kapata said the acquisition of huge tracts of land by foreign nationals led to the displacement of Zambians in some cases.
Ms. Kapata said the compensation offered to the displaced communities was in some cases inadequate and called on traditional leaders to be mindful of the interests of their subjects when issuing land.
Ms. Kapata told the house that Zambia has derived economic benefits from some of the foreigners such as technology transfer and capital that they bring into the country as well as the creation of employment opportunities.
Ms. Kapata said this in response to a question from Chipili Member of Parliament, Jewis Chabi who wished to know how many foreign nationals had acquired land and obtained title deeds, countrywide, between 2014 and 2019.
