The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) is elated with the overwhelming response from the public to its’ call for people to normalize documentation for any vehicles that were dubiously imported into Zambia.
In March this year, the Zambia Revenue Authority rolled out an initiative dubbed “Operation Clear Your Car Now” with a call to people whose vehicles were illegally imported into the country to report to the nearest ZRA office and normalize everything with the Authority. Under this initiative, anyone who approaches Authority with a dubiously imported vehicle will not be charged any penalty but, will only pay the principal tax after an assessment.
Zambia Revenue Authority Corporate Communications Manager, Topsy Sikalinda says the Authority understands that tax penalties and interests are a high business cost to taxpayers and has extended an olive branch to the public aimed at educating them on proper ways of importing motor vehicles. Mr. Sikalinda says that the deadline for the “Operation Clear Your Car Now” is 26th May 2021 and all vehicles on the audit list of dubiously imported vehicles will be impounded, seized and forfeited to the state thereafter.
