Sahara Energy has set aside over K250, 000 for the production of reusable face masks to help meet the growing demand for the commodity in Zambia.
Under the campaign launched to distribute free masks to public places among them shopping malls, markets and bus stations, the company targets to distribute 20, 000 face masks to help prevent the local transmission of COVID-19.
Launching the distribution of the face masks at Kulima Tower Bus Station in Lusaka, Company representative Christine Maseka expressed confidence this will help especially the vulnerable who cannot afford a surgical mask which has become expensive for most ordinary Zambians.
Ms Maseka said the Company has further engaged Local tailors to produce the masks as a way of empowering Zambians during this period.
According to measures taken by the Zambian government to slow down the spread of the pandemic, the wearing of face masks in public places and while using public transport has become mandatory.
