Three people died on the spot while five others sustained serious injuries in an accident which occurred Saturday Morning at Munali hills on the Great North road, 48 kilometers North of Mazabuka town.
Esther Katongo, the Zambia Police spokesperson confirmed the development to Capital FM.
Mrs. Katongo said involved was a Toyota Hiace which was being driven by Levinson Mweemba, 34, of Kabobola compound in Mazabuka, with 14 passengers on board.
She explained that the accident happened when the driver who while ascending an uphill, improperly overtook a truck on a curve and in trying to avoid a head-on collision with an on-coming truck applied brakes consequently losing control and careered-off the road.
Mrs. Katongo identified one of the deceased as Violet Habumbe of Hakoola village of Chief Naluwama in Chikankata District while a female adult and a male adult have not yet been identified.
And Mrs. Katongo said five other passengers who sustained serious injuries are admitted to Kafue General Hospital while six others and the driver who sustained minor injuries of which four out of the seven slightly injured were taken to Nansenga clinic in Chikankata District.
Mrs. Katongo said the driver is yet to be charged with three counts of Causing Death by Dangerous Driving.
