Youth Alliance Zambia calls for urgent enactment of Tobacco and Nicotine Products Control Bill

Youth Alliance Zambia has petitioned Health Minister, Dr Jonas Chanda to urgently introduce the Tobacco and Nicotine Products Control Bill in the current sitting of Parliament.

The organization’s Executive Director, Samson Mwale says the delay in enacting the Bill has put the lives of millions of Zambians at risk.

Mr. Mwale says the enactment of the Bill will sanitize the sector that accounts for more than 7,400 deaths in the country every year due tobacco smoking.

Mr. Mwale further said he is saddened by the country’s continued delay tactics in enacting the Bill despite being party to the World Health Organization Framework Convention on Tobacco Control since 2008.
