Zambian Ambassador to Turkey dies

Zambia’s Ambassador to Turkey, Dr. Joseph Chilengi died on Tuesday 11th MAY, 2021 at Güven Hospital in Ankara Turkey where he had been receiving medical attention.
Dr. Joseph Chilengi, 61, was appointed by President Edgar Lungu as Zambia’s envoy to Turkey in 2018. Prior to his appointment as Ambassador to Turkey, Dr. Chilengi served as the Presiding Officer of the African Union Economic, Social and Cultural Council (ECOSOCC) and was instrumental in ensuring that Zambia hosted its Secretariat.
Zambian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Honourable Joseph Malanji announced Ambassador Chilengi’s death in Lusaka saying, “It is with a heavy heart that I announce the death of our Ambassador accredited to the Republic of Turkey, His Excellency Dr. Joseph Chilengi after a short illness.”
The Minister regretted the passing of Ambassador Chilengi and stated that the Ambassador had worked very hard to promote bilateral and trade relations between the Republic of Zambia and the Republic of Turkey. Honourable Malanji also expressed his condolences to the family of the late Ambassador.
The Minister further stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs would announce the funeral arrangements for the late Zambian Ambassador to Turkey, His Excellency Dr. Joseph Chilengi in due course.
This is according to a press statement issued by the Public Relations Officer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Lusaka, Chansa Kabwela.
